Early chaos
With thunderstorms forecast, the start was brought forward three hours. The race still ran dry. Antonelli was slow away from pole and Charles Leclerc led the opening laps. The safety car came out when Isack Hadjar hit the wall and Pierre Gasly’s Alpine was launched over Liam Lawson’s rear wheel and rolled. Gasly was unhurt.
Pitting first wins it
After the restart Lando Norris took the lead and pulled out a gap of about three seconds. Mercedes pitted Antonelli first, and the fresher tyres took him past Norris when the McLaren came in a lap later. Norris stayed close to the end but finished 3.264s behind.
Leclerc’s late spin
Leclerc was on course for the podium until he spun into the wall in the closing laps. A 20-second penalty for repeatedly leaving the track in his damaged car dropped him to eighth, which gave Oscar Piastri third and McLaren a double podium. Norris had won Saturday’s sprint.
Antonelli leaves Miami on 100 points, 20 clear of Russell.
