Norris wins wet-to-dry Zandvoort after early red flag

Two in a row for Lando Norris. The McLaren driver won a Zandvoort race that started in the rain, was stopped on the first lap, and was decided by a late Virtual Safety Car.

Verstappen crashes out at home

Heavy rain before the start meant the cars began on wet tyres. On the opening lap Max Verstappen lost the rear of his Red Bull at the final corner and hit the wall hard, which brought out the red flag. Oliver Bearman’s engine then failed before the restart, so the field did an extra formation lap.

From wet to dry

Kimi Antonelli took the lead from Norris at the standing restart. The track dried, and the field switched from wets to slick tyres. A Virtual Safety Car late in the race set off another round of stops. Mercedes put Antonelli on softs, and Norris passed him at Turn 1 on his way to victory.

Stand-ins and penalties

With Isack Hadjar out with a wrist injury, Liam Lawson stepped up to Red Bull and finished seventh despite a 10-second penalty for ignoring yellow flags. Yuki Tsunoda returned at Racing Bulls. Lewis Hamilton finished fourth after a late move on Oscar Piastri that Piastri called “quite dangerous”. Russell had won Saturday’s sprint.

Antonelli leads on 242 points, with Russell and Hamilton level on 183.
